Free training and workshops

The following training classes and workshops are offered at no charge to members of Cheshire TV. (Some minor material fees may be charged for some classes.)

Membership is required for all classes except Orientation. Any person who lives, works or attends school full time in Keene, Marlboro or Swanzey, or the Time Warner Coverage area is eligible for membership. A $25 annual membership donation is suggested, but not required.


Classes will only be held if at least one person registers! Registration is required for all classes except drop-in Orientation. Members who can demonstrate proficiency in a particular area can be certified privately without taking a class.


Additional classes will be offered over time as demand indicates.


Orientation
Prerequisite: Membership

Intended to familiarize members with PEG Access, our Policies and Procedures, and the equipment, facilities and resources we offer.
Offered one-on-one for anyone who drops in. This is a great time to get involved. There are a number of shows currently being taped and help is always needed and welcome.
Drop in any time during our business hours!



Basic Studio Production
Scheduled for selected Saturdays from 10am-6pm
Prerequisite:
Membership & Orientation

Required for directors and Producers wishing to use the studio, but strongly recommended for anyone wishing to volunteer for any studio crew position. In-depth workshop covering the entire studio facility, related equipment and crew positions. You will learn about audio, lighting, crew positions, how to operate studio cameras, and how to direct, through the process of producing a studio program from start to finish. This workshop will result in at least one live-to-tape program ready to air. Completion will require participating in the class, a studio taping, and demonstrating proficiency in the areeas covered. This will certify the member to reserve and use the CTV studio. Members who can demonstrate proficiency can be certified without taking the class. Basic Field Video Production
Scheduled for selected Saturdays from Noon-4:00pm
Prerequisite: Orientation & Membership


Learn how to operate the Canon GL-2 and how to shoot professional video. Participants are encouraged to bring their own camcorders or use ours. Whether you want to work on your own show, someone else's show, or just improve your own home videos, this is a fun and informative class. The digital revolution has spawned many avenues for self-expression. We will show you the basics of video production. Includes pre-production planning, GL-2 camera training, basic shooting and control techniques, basic lighting and audio techniques, and shooting to edit. Completion will certify a member to check out our camera packages and accessories and will require members to shoot footage suitable to edit and air. Members who can demonstrate proficiency can be certified without taking the class.

Jib Arm / Hot Head
Prerequisite: Field Production

The Glidecam Jib Arm (also know as a boom, or crane) allows you to lift a camera 10 feet into the air and point it in almost any direction, from where you are on the ground. In this class you will be trained on how to assemble the jib arm, mount the hot head (remote pan/tilt head), balance the camera, and how to use the system.

PSA Production

Prerequisite: Membership


Learn to produce a short PSA or "commercial" for your organization or event. Complete workshop teaching members basic production skills and assistance with planning and completing the PSA. Sign up to schedule your PSA Class!


Live Event / Remote Production
Scheduled as needed
Prerequisite: Orientation


Required for directors and producers wishing to produce live or taped programming using multiple cameras that are switched. Take your show on the road, and learn how to set up and produce on location. Designed to familiarize participants with the many various challenges and unique problems presented by effectively producing and directing live events such as meetings, sports events, public gatherings, or live studio programs. All aspects will be covered after a review of multi-camera production skills. This is a great class for those interested in on-location programs such as coverage of sporting events, music concerts, etc. Live Event / Remote Production certification requires participating as a camera operator on at least two remote productions within a thirty day period, and participating as a "Front of House" tech on at least two remote productions in a thirty day period. Certification allows the member to reserve and use CTV's "TV In a Box", a comlpete portable studio control room designed to produce on location multicamera shows.

NOTE: This certification requires volunteering on a total of four remote productions. Let us know if you are interested in VOLUNTEERING for our next live event or remote production.



Non-Linear Editing (Pinnacle)
Prerequisite: Orientation & Membership

Introduces users to our Windows based Pinnacle non-linear editing system. Covers the basics of using the equipment, editing techniques and theory. Participants will have the opportunity to bring in their own footage to use in practice for certification, or edit footage that they shoot for the purpose of the class. A portion of the workshop involves each member editing a project on their own time. Completion will require a finished program of any length to air, and certify the user to reserve and use the Pinnacle editing system. Members who can demonstrate proficiency can be certified without taking the class.

Members who can demonstrate proficiency can be certified without taking the class.

Participants will have the opportunity to bring in their own footage to use in practice for certification, or edit footage that they shoot for the purpose of the class. A portion of the workshop involves each member editing a project on their own time. Completion will require a finished program of any length to air, and certify the user to reserve and use the AVID editing system. Members who can demonstrate proficiency can be certified without taking the class.
